What is Climate Local? • A council-led, voluntary initiative to champion action to reduce emissions and build resilience to a changing climate. • A source of resources and advice for councils. • A network of councils to provide peer support and to inform the LGA’s lobbying work with Government.

  5. Actions to support growth • Local retrofit market estimated to be worth £10m. • Developing local retrofit suppliers list. • Retrofit and microgeneration courses for SMEs. • Working with LEP to attract low carbon goods and services to the local area. • South East Business Carbon Hub. • Supported over 1,000 businesses. • Annual anticipated cost savings of £2,000 per business participant. • Collective potential business savings of £1m.

Actions to explore Green Deal and ECO • Partnership between Ascham Homes, Waltham Forest Council, Osbourne and British Gas. • Up to £25m of ECO funding • 6,000 properties. • Up to 40 permanent jobs. • Partnership with British Gas. • £50m commitment for ECO and access to £50m Green Deal finance. • 140 new jobs expected to be created in total. • 60% of Green Deal installations to be undertaken by local SMEs.

Actions to support vulnerable communities • Oldham Council, Oldham Housing Investment Partnership and Oldham Commissioning Group. • Fuel poverty seen as a priority area. • Funding a £200,000 preventative service. • Aiming to lift 1,000 people out of fuel poverty. • Decentralised energy programme. • Bunhill Energy Centre (2MW). • Powers 850 homes across several estates, a swimming pool and leisure centre. • Cheaper, greener, locally-produced heat.
