Support Categories • What is Hardware? • The physical components that make up the computer and other devices connected to the computer. • Examples: Input, Output, and System devices • What is Software? • Computer programs designed to perform specific tasks such as document processing, calculations, and data processing. • Examples: Operating systems, Word Processing, Databases, Spreadsheets, etc. • What are Communications Devices? • A hardware component that enables a computer to transmit and receive data, instructions and information. • Examples: Cables, Telephone Lines, Networks, Satellites, etc.
Diagnostic Utility • Compiles technical information about your computer’s hardware and certain systems programs • Prepares a report which outlines and identifies problems • Diagnoses problems as well as suggested courses of action • Assists technical support staff in remedying identified problems • Diagnostic Utility programs are included with many operating systems
IT Code of Conduct • Computers may not be used to harm others. • Employees may not interfere with others’ computer work. • Employees may not meddle in others’ computer files. • Computers may not be used to steal. • Computers may not be used to bear false witness. • Employees may not copy or use software illegally.
Employees may not use others’ computer resources without authorizations. • Employees may not use others’ intellectual property as their own. • Employees shall consider the social impact of programs and systems they design. • Employees always should use computers in a way that demonstrates consideration and respect for fellow humans.
