  2. Cases Consider the following as you read the cases: • Is it effective communication? Why or why not? • What key words or phrases stand out to you? • What advice would you give the speaker? • Would your opinion differ if you knew that it a man or a woman speaking? How so?

  3. Cases – compare the two “I have recently been promoted to Assistant Supervisor of the marketing research department in my company. I’m really happy about it! Since I’ve been with the company, I’ve tried my best to be both dedicated and hard-working. I’m glad my skills have been acknowledged, but I think partly it was “being in the right place at the right time.” Although I’m a little nervous about doing a good job, all the people I work with are competent, intelligent, and easy to get along with. That should make things easier. What else can I say? I have several close friends that are very dear to me and consider myself a pretty well-rounded person.”

  4. Cases – compare the two “I have recently been promoted to Assistant Supervisor of the marketing research department in my company. It’s about time! I’m the hardest working and most dedicated employee my company has ever seen. On top of that, I get along well with anyone and everyone. Although most people are nervous about doing a good job in a new position, I’m not the least bit worried. I’ve always performed exceptionally well at everything I’ve done. In fact, I should be promoted to Head Supervisor before too long. What else can I say? I’ve got a lot of very close friends and consider myself an exceptionally well-rounded person.”
