  3. Work registration means that a person is making themselves available for work because they are applying for or are receiving SNAP SNAP Federal Regulation requires that work registration status is determined for ALL SNAP applicants and recipients Work Registration

  4. Indiana is a Voluntary State

  5. What happens when the Mandatory button is pushed? IMPACT Mandatory ON Working 30 hours per week Coded 01/00 Has children under 6 Coded 01/00 Voluntary

  6. AEIWP is composed of a Work Registration (WR CODE) Code and a Referral code (REF CODE) WR Code indicates the work registration status REF Code indicates whether the client will be referred to IMPACT AEIWP

  7. Figuring out if the applicant/recipient qualifies for any exemptions is a good place to start Common exemptions: 10 11 18 21 Exemptions

  8. Scenario 1 • A household applies for SNAP. The Household consists of: • Mother Sarah-40 • Father Jordan-41 • 4 common children, Ages 3, 8, 15 and 15. • Jordan works 18 hours per week at $12.10 per hour. There is no other income. How should the parents be coded on AEIWP? • A. Jordan is 03/03 and Sarah is 01/00 • B. Jordan is 15 and Sarah is an 18 • C. Both Jordan and Sarah are coded 18

  9. Scenario 1 Answer • B: Sarah would be an 18 and Jordan would be a 15. • Only one parent in an AG can qualify for the 18 exemption.

  10. 15 is the most overused and incorrectly used code ONLY use this exemption IF the individual works at least 30 hours, OR earns the financial equivalent of 30 x federal minimum wage EVERY SINGLE WEEK Code 15

  11. Scenario 2 • Avery, 24, applies for SNAP for himself only and has no income. Avery does not qualify for any exemptions and really wants help finding a job and would like to volunteer for IMPACT. • How should he be coded on AEIWP? • A. 03/03 • B. 03/25 • C. 01/25

  12. Scenario 2 Answer A. Avery would be an 03/03. Never use 03/25 as it will interfere with tracking. Using a 25 prevents ABAWD language from going on the notice, but AEABA will continue to populate ABAWD codes each month. This will result in uninformed clients and lost hearings.  ABAWDs cannot volunteer, they are auto scheduled for IMPACT.

  13. Scenario 3 • Amy is 28 years old and has verified that she is pregnant. She applies for herself only. She is able bodied and does not have a job. • How should Amy be coded on AEIWP? • A. 01/00 • B. 01/16 • C. 03/03

  14. Scenario 3 Answer • A. Amy should be coded 01/00. The 16 referral code is not necessary as Indiana is currently a voluntary state. • The 16 code also only applies to an individual within the 3rd trimester of pregnancy, so marking someone as such would require follow up at the end of the pregnancy.

  15. When should AEIWP be reviewed? • EVERY TIME a case is touched • At application point • At recertification • When working changes or alerts • If you authorize, you are responsible! Reviewing AEIWP

  16. Scenario 4 • A household applies for SNAP. The household consists of • 33 year old Mary • Her two children aged 10 and 12 • Mary’s 49 year old mother, Ruth • Everyone in the household purchases and prepares food together • How should Mary and Ruth be coded on AEIWP? • A. Mary would be coded 01/00 and Ruth would be coded 01/00 • B. Mary would be coded 18 and Ruth would be coded 01/00 • C. Mary would be coded 01/00 and Ruth would be coded 03/03

  17. Scenario 4 Answer • A. Both should be coded 01/00. • Ruth is not an ABAWD because she is in an assistance group with dependent children.

  18. Scenario 5 • Tyrone, 25, applies for himself only. He lives with his sister and her children, ages 1 and 4. Tyrone purchases and prepares separately from them. He has no income and does not qualify for an exemption. • How should Tyrone be coded on AEIWP? • A. 01/00 • B. 03/03 • C. 18

  19. Scenario 5 Answer B. Tyrone should be coded as an 03/03. The dependents in the home are not part of his AG therefore Tyrone cannot be an 01/00. Tyrone is an ABAWD.

  20. Pending AEINC

  21. AEABA The Z should only be entered if instructed by the SNAP Policy Dept. The numbers of instances where the Z code was used must be counted and reported to FNS by SNAP Policy

  22. If a code does not exist on AEABA for a given month, it is because the client was not coded as an ABAWD on AEIWP When troubleshooting AEABA, check AEIWP history for that month to ensure client was coded as an ABAWD Never enter a code on AEABA for months where there wasn’t a code prior

  23. Scenario 6 • John, age 26, lives alone. He is able bodied and unemployed.  He states that he does not have access to a car and he lives in a rural area with no available transportation. He attends IMPACT meeting and IMPACT cannot help him with transportation. The IMPACT case worker informs eligibility of this inability to assist. • How should John be coded on AEIWP? • A. 03/03 • B. 03/23 • C. 01/00

  24. Scenario 6 Answer • B. John should be coded 03/23. • IMPACT can request a 23 or 24 referral code be entered on AEIWP if they are unable to provide a level of supportive services that would allow the individual to participate in IMPACT services. This is rare and the request for these codes MUST come from the IMPACT provider through the regional e-mail box.
