  2. Growing up • Robert Scott was born on January 13,1929. • He was born in Haw River N.C. • As a child he grew up on a dairy farm. • His Father was also Governor of North Carolina and served in office from 1949-1953. • He was accepted into Duke University and graduated in 1952.

  3. Life • In 1951 he married Jessie Rae Osbone. • Together they had 4 daughters. • One of his children, Megg Phipp, was elected commissioner of agriculture in 2000. • His wife died December 26, 2010.

  4. Career • He was a democratic governor. • He reorganized state government. • He reconstructed higher education. • He helped establish the State Kindergarten Program.

  5. End of life • He was appointed president of the State Community Colleges in 1983. • Served in the U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps for 2 years. • Served as a collage Dean until he died. • He died on January 23, 2009.
