About ANSA-Africa • ANSA-Africa – joint World Bank and HSRC initiative • Objectives of the Network: • develop cross-country collaboration on social accountability and demand-side governance initiatives; • provide technical assistance to different countries so the quality of social accountability initiatives is greatly enhanced; deliver training programs on specific tools and techniques; and • share country experiences and lessons from social accountability and demand-side governance initiatives regionally and globally.
About ANSA-Africa • Activities generated via a demand-led and a more pro-active, supply led approach. • Technical support to focus on design and use of social accountability techniques with the greatest potential for improving the efficiency, transparency and quality of public services. • These include: • Consultative Report Cards, Score Cards, Participatory Budgeting, Participatory Expenditure Tracking, Lateral Budget Tracking, Citizen-Public Sector Communication techniques; Independent Budget Analysis; and Participatory Performance Monitoring, etc

ANSA-AfricaDesign and Operalisation • The HSRC role: • oversee the establishment and management of ANSA-Africa; • build on its strong existing network to drive the core agenda and objectives of ANSA-Africa; • provide technical assistance to countries on social accountability initiatives; • coordinate and monitor onward grant-making activities; • ensure the monitoring and assessment of funded activities; and • provide technical training opportunities as needed and facilitate country-to-country learning and technical assistance opportunities
ANSA-AfricaDesign and Operalisation • The outreach of ANSA into the rest of Africa will happen in a number of interrelated ways namely: • through normal communication channels via e-mail and the web; • through the Executive Committee and Technical Advisory Group; • through the Strategic Networking Specialist; and • through the establishment of a number of Implementation Partners. • Each implementation partners will operate as an independent hub but linked to and with technical support from the ANSA Secretariat. • The partner organisation will draw on its own network of specialists as local partners to form a network around itself to perform the required tasks. • ANSA-Africa to assist in leveraging funds and provide a link between the partners in order to facilitate country-to-country learning.
