  1. GOA Overview

  2. The Case for Adoption Funding 153,000,000 children worldwide and 400,000 in the U.S. are growing up without families. • 18 million children overseas and 25% of the children in foster care need a family right now • Given 250,000 adoptions a year the probability of being adopted isonly1½ % The impact of inaction is heartbreaking. Children without families experience poor life outcomes at predictable and alarming rates. Gift of Adoption Fund provides the final funds to complete the adoption process, uniting more children with safe, permanent and loving families. 2

  3. GOA Helps the Most Vulnerable Children Around the World • Gift of Adoption prioritizes the most vulnerable children in its grant making: • Sibling groups (15%) and older children (13%) • Children with unmet medical needs (36%) • Children entering foster care unnecessarily (15%) • Economic and Adoption trends are affecting these children the most. • Increasingly, children available for adoption internationally are older or in need of medical care but the process is lengthier and more costly. • After steadily declining by 20 percent between 2005 and 2012, the number of children in foster care increased in FY2014 by 5%. GOA grantees are military families, teachers, social workers, clergy, etc., with an approved home study from an accredited adoption agency, a waiting child, and a demonstrated financial need for the final funds needed to close the adoption. They have committed to moving a child from a life of uncertainty to one that will provide stability and love. They are assuming the responsibility and cost of raising and loving a child, but the upfront adoption costs have created a financial barrier between their homes and their children. 3

  4. It’s Time for a New Philanthropic Priority GOA does not create adoption. We work with the parents, adoption agencies, and lawyers to provide the final funds needed to complete adoptions. However, for every grant we fund, we still must turn away two. And, every time we enter a new state, applications from that state increase. The need clearly exists. You don’t need to adopt to give a child a family. Adoption Assistance grants are a win-win on a humanitarian and economic level, greatly reducing the probability of homelessness, poverty, mental illness and reliance on government support while simultaneously releasing the full potential of a child. No other charitable initiative delivers transformational impact for such a small investment. “Putting children who need love and care into families who crave the love a child is one of the great unfinished endeavors of the world.” Scott Simon, Host of Weekend Edition Saturday on NPR and author of Baby, We Were Meant for Each Other: In Praise of Adoption 4

  5. GOA’s 500 in 5 Plan Will Double our Impact in One Quarter of the Time • Gift of Adoption is ready to lead this new philanthropic priority: • Volunteers across the country. • Integrity in our independent grant selection process. • Largest non-discriminatory organization • Reputation for responsiveness and respect 2015 to 2020: 5 Years/1857 Children 1996 to 2015: 20 Years/1565 Children 5

  6. Three Pronged Approach: Chapter Expansion, Brand Development, Donor Stewardship The Core of the Plan is Chapter Expansion 2016 to 2018 Chapter Expansion Plan • 2020 Goals • 30 Chapters/450 volunteers • National network to attract corporate support/in kind programs • Strengthened brand • Improved ability to attract leaders • Direct to donor communications • Best in class donor satisfaction

  7. Together, We Can Unleash the Potential of More Children Together, We Can Move the Needle on Adoption “Eliana will grow up in a stable home free of substance abuse. She would have ended up in the foster care system if we had not been there to adopt her. She will have access to good medical care, a strong education, and will have a big extended family who loves her a lot!” “Issac was found abandoned in Ethiopia when he was one month old. When attempts to find relatives were exhausted, adoption became a way for him to have a family. Gift of Adoption’s support in getting him home means more than you could ever know.”
