Class Structure • Classes will consist of a brief lecture and/or viewing of presentations followed by working the tutorials in the book. • Audio Powerpoints • Sound Bytes • Active Helpdesks • Work independently and at your own pace. The assigned tutorial(s) should be finished before the next class. • I may interrupt class occasionally to discuss concepts or share insights from students. • Feel free to ask questions at any time. • An “official” break will not be taken during class, but feel free to (discretely) break at any time.   7. Attendance/Class Participation You are adults, this is college – you paid lots of $’s for this class – it’s your choice to attend (or not). Show up, do the work, pass the class. Best way to prepare for exams: attend class, pay attention, participate in class discussion, do the work, ask questions, do your own work, seek help for what you don’t understand. Homework (labs) There will be 1 Lab (homework) per week Based on the material covered in the Tutorial, but encourage you to stretch your brain a bit, ex: they may require research beyond the book. That’s why you have 1 week to complete them. Don’t wait until the last minute. A213 Database Applications

Homework (labs) cont… • Each lab is worth 50 points and constitutes 60% of your grade. • Labs will be posted in MyITLab. • Completed labs must be uploaded into MyITLabprior to 11:45 pm the day they are due. • Points are deducted if turned in late; no points after 48 hours.   10. Exams There will be two comprehensive exams covering concepts learned in class and in the labs. They must be completed during class. Exams are worth 150 points each and contribute 30% of your grade. A213 Database Applications

  11. Grade 100/90/80/70/60 scale 13 Tutorials x 8 points = 104 12 labs x 50 points = 600 points 2 exams x 150 points = 300 points Total of 1004 points. Divide your total number of points by 10 to determine your current grade in class. Example: 857 points = 85.7% = B+ A213 Database Applications

  12. Grades (continued) … • Please understand: A + F ≠ C average • A (90%) + F (10%) = 50% which is still an F • In other words, you can’t just: • Skip the homework and “ace” the exams or • Blow off the exams and “ace” the homework. A213 Database Applications
