Major Course Objectives • Create web sites • Know some of Office • Able to specify your own PC • Familiarity with IT terminology • Investigate IT ethical issues • Become familiar with Online methods of learning • Improve ability to research and evaluate sources • Improvement from where you start & participation • AIM: Fun projects you will use later – alternative project suggestions welcome

MS OFFICE Applications + • MS Office 2010 or below • Word - Word Processor • Excel - Spreadsheet • PowerPoint - Presentation Tool • Access – Database Tool • SeaMonkey - Web Development Tool • FileZilla – FTP manager • Windows Explorer – File manager • Google Drawing - Graphics • Google Hangout - Conferencing tool • Adobe Connect – alternate conferencing tool

Computer Equipment Required • NONE • No home PC needed – library is fine • Use library if home PC not working well • MS Office occasionally needed • Free Open Office is okay but not tutorials for all • No need for Open Office if you have MS Office • Instructions mostly for Windows, but Macintosh OS is okay • Submit through moodle first but email if moodle does accept your assignment.

Organize with Moodle • 15 modules - one per week • Due Sunday 12 noon • Every solid checkbox checked by Sunday 12 noon • Every dotted checkbox instructions completed • Helps: • F5 to refresh instructions • Quick tutorials to learn concepts • Assignments often can be done from high level only • Announcements • Social Cafe - extra credit for answering • Syllabus

Time Management • Review the assignment at the beginning of the week  (allow 1 hour)  • Check your email for updates and announcements (at least every other day)  • Post the first part of any required two step assignment (This only occurs some weeks.)  • Do the majority of the reading and activities (allow 3 - 4 hours and preferably break it into a couple days)  • check the social cafe to read updates and to offer help (at least twice a week) • Work on the semester long projects ( Semester Long Project #1 - Create and Use Tutorials & Semester Long Project #2 - HTML and CSS ) (allow 1 hour) 

  10. DANGER Skipping an online week is the same as cutting class. NOT just homework assignments. Brush over in class OR new material SKIPPING  NOT easily done later. Library PCs and Backup  no excuses
