To quote Peter Drucker, “Management is about doing things right. Leadership is doing the right things”. Successful Leaders are usually associated with qualities and traits that represent them. To quote Peter Drucker, “Management is about doing things right. Leadership is doing the right things”. Successful Leaders are usually associated with qualities and traits that represent them. Every leader's style is unique to them. But in today's ever changing world where businesses evolve and change in the blink of an eye, a leader needs to break away from the beaten path of classical leadership patterns and embrace alternative leadership styles if they want to stay relevant. • An important trait of a successful leader is that they don't restrict themselves to short term goals. Good leaders have a vision that is futuristic and they also help their subordinates in dream bigger dreams. Leaders take a rational approach to things around them with attention to detail.
There are some leaders who strictly believe in the direct relationship between efforts and results and build a work culture around it and have their employees conform to the same. On the other hand, there are leaders who believe in driving a business through principles and core values. It’s this type of a leader who is able to bring people together and function as a team. • Patience and Impatience is a double edged sword that works both ways. An impatient leader has restless energy, is goal oriented and is filled with enthusiasm; sounds like a recipe for success. However, things overturn when this same trait is applied to people. A leader needs to be patient with people and be able to appreciate the positives and negatives, both. One should apply impatience on results and practice patience with the workforce.
The common denominator nowadays for leaders of today is intelligence. These are people who have a limitless appetite for learning and are constantly exploring new ideas and challenges. But this intelligence needs to be shared with the workforce so that it sparks interest amongst them. A leader that does not share his insights with his subordinates ultimately becomes redundant. • Of late, a leader's net worth is equated to their network of people. For an average leader, it’s quite easy to have followers around them. But a true leader is one who genuinely connects with the followers with an idea to serve. This act of selflessness is the hallmark of a real leader.
Another important aspect of honing leadership skills is by incorporating a sense of personal stake in self-development. Encouraging leaders to take charge of their own self-development is the key component that drives this programme. Many leaders remain stuck in a stereotype parenthesis that’s associated with traits such as charisma and ego, leaving little space for human touch. The programmeaims to break this mould for leaders and prospective leaders who emerge motivated and are driven by humility, making work more meaningful for everyone around them.
A strong leader is the cornerstone of any organization, one who can inspire confidence and does not crumble under the weight of responsibilities and challenges. Nurturing leadership skills involves discipline, constant learning, experimentation and renewal. It may seem like an arduous task, but it’s worth it.
