Academy of Business & Finance • The mission of the Acadiana High School Academy of Business and Finance is to equip students with the financial knowledge and communication skills necessary to have an immediate competitive edge in post-secondary education and/or the workforce.
History • Began in 2002 as part of the Lafayette Parish School System “Schools of Choice” Program • Approximately 30 programs from Pre-K to high school
Member of NAF (National Academy Foundation) • Smaller learning communities • Industry-specific, project-based curriculum • Finance • Hospitality and Tourism • Information Technology • Engineering • Newest: Health Sciences • 40 states with almost 500 academies • www.naf.org
How do students join? • Online application • Essay • Teacher recommendation • Interview session • LOTTERY • Based on formula approved by Department of Justice • NO CRITERIA ON DISCIPLINE, ATTENDANCE, OR SOCIAL HISTORY • Only requirement to remain in the program: schedule & pass required curriculum
What do they learn? • Career Cluster: Finance • AOC: Banking and Finance (NAF Academy)
