Greek Mythology: Exploring Gods, Monsters, and Legends

Interesting facts • Did you know that a God can not steal another God’s main weapon. • Did you know that the monsters in Greek Mythology don’t die they just fade away and don’t come back to life until a few hundreds or even thousands years. • Did you know that Hephaestus was the only God that had a deformed body part which was his leg. • Did you know that the Hephaestus was forced to marry Aphrodite.

3. Zeus god of the sky and ruler of the Olympian gods Zeus was the chief god he saved his brothers and sisters from Cronus. Zeus was said to be very mean to some Mortals and even to some Gods. Zeus took over the sky’s and became the rain God and the cloud gatherer. Although Hera was his wife and sister he had a lot of offspring's with mortal woman and even with other Goddesses and Hera always got very jealous.

4. Poseidon God of the seas and Earthquakes Poseidon is one of the “big three” and that means he gets his own kingdom in the seas or in any type of body of water. Wouldn’t it be cool if your kingdom was about three fourths of the world. Anyways Poseidon is known for creating horses out of sea foam, and did you know he and Athena have a great rivalry but both of their inventions go together really great since Athena created the chariot, and Poseidon created the Horse.

5. Hades god of the dead and the Under world Although Hades is one of the “big three” he is not welcome to Mt. Olympus because he has to remain in the underworld and if he did get to go to Mt. Olympus he might try to get revenge on the other Gods. You see Poseidon has his kingdom in the seas so he isn’t really that mad and he can also roam freely in the Earth, but Hades in the other hand has to stay in the Underworld and I guess it really sucks down there.

6. The 12 Olympian Gods The 12 Olympian gods which include Zeus, Poseidon, Hera, Aphrodite, Apollo, Ares, Artemis, Athena, Demeter, Dionysus ,Hephaestus, and Hermes. Each had their unique part in the world as they did in their universe.

7. The Origin behind Greek Mythology Greek Mythology developed around second half of the 2nd millennium. Archaeologists have shown that many of the places where the mythical events most probably took place mach to sites that had historical meaning during the Mycenaean period of Greek history. So scholas consider it likely that the Mycenaeas made a big payment to the development of the stories, even if this payment is hard to show detail. Some scholars have argue that the Minoan civilization of Crete also had a important rule on Greek myths. What this means is that scholars think that the Mycenaean's developed the stories of Greek mythology but some also think that the Minoan civilization of Crete also had to do with Greek Myths.

8. How much do you know? Question: How did Cronus avoid from being kicked out of his kingdom by his own children? • He threw them down a river and they drowned. • He ate them. • He chocked them to death with a stick.
