Hydraulic cement: Due to the harsh cement hydration (chemical reaction between cement and water) in the presence of water, this type of cement can also be rigid under water. Portland Cement is the best example of hydraulic cement. 2. Non-hydraulic cement. The cement which is not hard underwater is called non-hydraulic cement. This type of cement becomes rigid when it reacts with atmospheric carbon dioxide (carbonation). It is resistant to attack by chemicals after the cement setting.
