Genoa Herewe are Sarzana Florence We live in the province of La Spezia in the Liguria region, in the north west of Italy. We are on the border of Tuscany and Liguria, between Genoa and Florence
La Spezia is one of the main Italian military and commercial ports and has one of Italy's biggest military industries THE GULF OF LA SPEZIA
sarzana The name of our town is Sarzana a pretty medieval town, many people visit it
The Town council every year organizes many attractionsevery September an important Festival of the Mind which involves famous intellectuals.
From the first century the town has had a strong Roman Catholic culture, Pope Nicolò V was born here

We have many fortifications, churches and castles, very closed to the see
We are near the sea, at the weekend we usually go to the seaside
Behind us there are the Apuan Alps which protect us from cold north winds, so the climate is very pleasant, in fact the temperature is never too hot or too cold and we can usually spend a lot of time outside in every season
marmo Unique marble is quarried in the Apuan Alps. It is known as Carrara marble
Many famous statues were carved from this stone, for example Michelangelo’s David
We eat very well, different vegetables, fruits and food are produced and are served on our tables
Typical are special pancakes called “testaroli”, we eat them with “pesto” (a sauce made of basil erbs, pine nuts, parmesan cheese and olive oil).
This is a traditional mortar made of marble, inside which the pine nuts are grown
“FARINATA” is a crepe made with chickpea flour the kids like it almost as much as pizza
Special pasta“TORDELLI” ” filled with meat or ricotta cheese. We often eat fresh fish and seafood with or without pasta.
“SPONGATA” is a cake usually eaten at Christmas time. It is made with dried fruits and spices.
The good weather allows our children to do a lot of outdoor sport activities such as: “SAILING”
Our town has a important team of hockey and many children start to play it “HOCKEY”
This is a Sarzana archery “ARCHERY”
