TEACHING PSYCHOLOGY IN LITHUANIA • Five State Universities in Lithuania offer BA and MA programs in psychology – Vilnius University, Mykolo Romerio University, Vytautas Magnus University, Vilnius Pedagogical University, Klaipedos University • Psychology studies are among top 10 most popular in Lithuania • Psychology master programmes in Lithuania cover - Educational, Organizational, Clinical, Health, Forensic, Social Psychology; they usually include at least 4 months full-time supervised practice • Fees: BA programme costs €2,000 per year, MA programme costs €3,100 per year, most advanced students may apply for a government funding • Employability: situation of psychology graduates is changing in Lithuania, in recent years psychology programmes have expanded and graduates can face unemployment, the situation which was rather rare in the past,job opportunities for those whohold BA are currently debated • VILNIUS UNIVERSITY • History: The oldest and the largest Lithuanian higher education institution established in the 16th century, psychology program opened in 1969 • Admission: the language of psychology courses is Lithuanian, in addition to that prospective students need to complete secondary school education • Graduates: 80 BA in psychology, 60 MA in psychology in the year 2010 • Number of academic employees: 32 academic staff, 6 professors, 14 associate professors, 10 lecturers, 2 senior researchers • Psychology taught within the Faculty of Philosophy which offers undergraduate (BA), graduate (MA) and postgraduate (PhD) courses in psychology • Courses available in English language: • Evolutionary Psychology • Introduction to Counseling and Psychotherapy • Social Psychology • Abnormal Psychology • Posttraumatic Society • Life-span Development • Focus Group Research • Research Methods and Statistics in Social Sciences • BA – Psychology • PhD – Psychology • MA – Clinical Psychology • Organisational Psychology • Educational Psychology • Psychology and Criminology • Health Psychology • Centres & Laboratories: • Psychological Innovation and Research Training Centre – provides professional psychological services, conducts psychological researches, provides training for graduate students and professional psychologists • Laboratory of Special Psychology – takes interest in psychological functioning of disabled people and • their families, psychometrics, creation, adaptation and standardisation of psychological assessment methods • Laboratory of psychophysiology – psychological modelling on sensation and perception Contact: Danutė Gailienė Evaldas Kazlauskas Department of Clinical and Organisational PsychologyUniversiteto Str 9/1, LT-01513 VilniusLithuania E-Mail: danute.gailiene@fsf.vu.lt evaldas.kazlauskas@fsf.vu.lt • EUROPLAT: European Network for Psychology Learning and TeachingFunded with support from the European Commission.
