Alumni Admissions Ambassador Program2008 – 2009 Recruitment Season
The Alumni Admissions Ambassador Program • A collaborative effort between Alumni Relations and Undergraduate Admissions. • The main purpose is to engage well-trained, knowledgeable and enthusiastic alumni as active participants in the university’s undergraduate recruitment efforts.
AAAP Volunteer Role • Serves as an OU representative at recruitment fairs. • Visits high schools and community colleges. • Attends on campus admissions events to welcome students and families. • Engages with students, families, faculty, staff and other alumni in a meaningful way.
The College Fair • College fairs are events organized by high schools or colleges and universities. • High schools invite college and university representatives to meet with local students, allowing the students and their parents to obtain information on a variety of colleges and universities regarding majors, campus life, admissions, etc. • Based on target marketing and research, the office of undergraduate Admissions selects fairs for AAAP ambassadors.
The College Fair • You will be assigned a table at the fair (If you are attending a fair in Michigan, you will be teamed up with an admissions adviser) • Display the recruitment brochures and the AAAP contact cards. *AAAP contact card in section 3 • During the fair, students will stop by your table and ask questions. Share your OU experience while answering questions. *FAQ at a college fair in section 3 • Be sure to have the interested student fill out the contact card so Undergraduate Admissions can send more information to the student.
On Campus Recruitment Events Go For The Gold! • Panel sessions during fall and spring open houses for prospective students and their parents. • Alumni Panelists offer insight on why they decided to attend OU, and how their OU experience prepared them for professional success. Welcome Receptions • Alumni Welcome newly admitted students and their parents during evening receptions held in the spring as an Alumni Host or Guest Speaker.

AAAP Progress & Accomplishments September 2007- July 2008 • Active volunteers include 43 ambassadors who have participated in at least one event • Approximately 20% of the ambassadors have volunteered more than one time • Service to the university includes 113 volunteer hours • Over 2,000 visits to www.oakland.edu/aaap • 170 total interested and active ambassadors
AAAP Future Plans • Sponsor three out-of-state AAAP receptions • Chicago, IL • Ft. Lauderdale, FL • Cleveland, OH • Develop an AAAP e-newsletter • Customize registration for AAAP ambassadors *email fleer@oakland.edu if you are currently interested in becoming an Ambassador
Why you Should Become an Ambassador or Refer Someone! • Opportunity to share OU experiences and knowledge. • Enhance connections with the community. • Expand the university’s presence and provide valuable and genuine connections to future Golden Grizzlies. • It is everyone’s job to recruit, retain, & graduate students!
