Rosh HashanahWe welcomed Michal and Tal’s Mother’s to share with us their celebrations for Rosh Hashanah from their home country of Israel. We sang a New Year song meaning good year and learnt about the tradition of eating honey and apple. In the New Year they eat honey with apple because they wish for the New Year to be as sweet as the honey. They explained that they also eat fish heads to be successful for the year. The ramon or pomegranate is a nice fruit which is also eaten at this time too because it is good for you. This time of year they think about good things to do for the year such as being a good friend.
We enjoyed making our own Rosh Hashanah cards using pictures of apple and honey and the ram.
We saw a picture of a ram’s horn, when it is blown it sounds like a horn. The horn or shofar is difficult to blow and to make the noise. We all listened as we heard the special sound through the computer. Then it was time to eat the apple and honey and hear some traditional songs. Thank you Ifat and Yafa!
