Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) FERPA Waiver: A student must provide consent allowing SFS staff to discuss information about their financial aid to parents, guardians or other appropriate persons. Students should complete the FERPA waiver online via the Students log-in, select the “Self-Service Banner” link, then select “Student” tab, under “Main Menu” select “FERPA”.
Next Steps Grants/Scholarships • Automatically apply to the student account and no further action on your part is necessary Federal Direct and parent (PLUS) Loans • The maximum loan amount for a freshman DEPENDENT student is $5,500. If you want the loan you are required to ACCEPT the loan on Self Service Banner and • Complete the Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Entrance Counseling at studentloans.gov.
FEDERAL DIRECT PLUS LOAN FOR PARENTS • Direct Parent PLUS Loans are available to credit-worthy parents of dependent undergraduate students. • Parents may borrow the difference between the student’s total cost of education and all other aid the student is receiving. • NOTE: direct parent plus loans! Student must have a current FAFSA on file to receive a Direct Parent PLUS Loan. In addition, a Direct Parent PLUS Loan Request form must be submitted to the SFS Office. • The interest rate is fixed at 7.9%. • Goes into repayment when fully disbursed, repayment can be deferred but interest will accrue. • See our Direct Loan FAQ: http://www.temple.edu/sfs/
