    8. Our Coaching Philosophy We want to develop a love of wrestling. This means teaching wrestling in a positive and nurturing environment. There will be absolutely no weight reduction. The emphasis will be on fun, learning, and competitive sportsmanship. While we want this to be fun, we do ask for the cooperation of the parents and children in following the rules. Try your hardest Listen / Focus on what coach is saying Have FUN!! While we will teach the kids to be aggressive and try their hardest to compete, winning will not be the goal. The goals and praise will be focused on: Effort Focus Progress / Improvement We will consistently reward effort and progress / improvement of all wrestlers, regardless of talent and experience!!! Nov.2 , 2010 8 Four Points Youth Wrestling Club Kids and Parents Informational Meeting

    9. Why wrestling?? Wrestling is a great sport in and of itself. It develops the kids physically Strength, coordination, quickness, quick thinking It develops the kids’ values Great for self-confidence / self-esteem, discipline, work ethic, mental toughness, individual and team sportsmanship. It is a great way to channel aggressive kids’ tendencies and develop passive kids’ competitiveness. Wrestling is also great cross training for other sports such as football. Many star HS, college and Pro football players have wrestled and attributed their success to wrestling. Wrestling emphasizes discipline and intensity, which are highly correlated to academic achievement and career success. The kids love it!!!! 10. What wrestling is not Wrestling is NOT the WWE Wrestling is a real sport, not entertainment Wrestling is one of the oldest sports Wrestling is strict enforcement of rules Wrestling is good sportsmanship at all times Wrestling is NOT Mixed Martial Arts No striking No submission holds Wrestling is NOT a collision sport Less likely than many sports for a serious injury. Nov.2 , 2010 10 Four Points Youth Wrestling Club Kids and Parents Informational Meeting

    11. Folkstyle Wrestling 101 Goal: The primary objective in Folkstyle wrestling is to pin your opponent (holding both shoulders to the mat for 2 seconds) or score the most points within a match. A pin is an instant win (regardless of score). If no pin is achieved in the allotted time, the winner is the opponent with the most points at the end of the match. Format : Every match has three periods. In youth wrestling, each period is typically 1 minute long (older kids may be longer) First Period Starts from standing or neutral position (both wrestlers on their feet). Second Period: Choice of position is decided by toss of coin. The winner may choose either up, down, neutral, or defer choice to 3rd period. Third Period Contestant with choice may choose up, down, or neutral. Basic Scoring Takedown - 2 points Escape - 1 point Reversal - 2 points Near Fall (back points) - 2 points Near Fall (back points) - 3 points Nov.2 , 2010 11 Four Points Youth Wrestling Club Kids and Parents Informational Meeting
