Do You Remember Each Day Who You Are? What is the view point of a Christian? 1 Corinthians 6:19,20 Bought & Cleansed by God Our Purpose to Glorify God
We are Always in a Battle to Keep Our Hearts Attuned to God’s Ways • At Conversion we should look back and be ashamed of our prior conduct – Romans 6:20-22 “What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death... you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.”
The Value of Shame • What does it mean to be ashamed? • (1) denoting a sense of guilt and remorse; be ashamed (Romans 6:21) • (2) as denoting fear of embarrassment that one’s expectations may probe false, be ashamed, be embarrassed… (Romans 1:16) • (3) as denoting reluctance through fear of humiliation… be afraid, lack courage to stand up for (Mark 8:38)
Two Conflicting Systems That Teach Us About Shame • Romans 8:5-8 • Powers of world teaching us what should make us ashamed • Should we be ashamed at the practice of homosexuality or ashamed of the one who opposes homosexuality? • Should we trust the man who teaches God’s word or in the man the world praises?
God’s People Build Their Thoughts on God & Truth • 2 Timothy 1:11-13 • Psalm 25:1-5 • Righteousness, justice, mercy and truth found in heart of those who trust in God • 1 Peter 3:15 • They are used to being rejected & attacked be the world – 1 John 4:4-6
Of Whom Are You Ashamed? • All will use the moral systems they have learned to guide their lives • Some will profess to be guided by God but actually are following the world – John 16:1-3 • When you trust in worldly men you will be greatly ashamed over time – Isaiah 20:5
Of Whom Are You Ashamed? • We should not be ashamed of our brethren who walk by faith • Decisions to put God first – Matthew 6:33 • Local church seeking to abide in the teaching of Jesus Christ – 1 Peter 4:11 • Paul knew some became ashamed of him- 2 Timothy 4:10,14-16
Of Whom Are You Ashamed? • Paul was thankful for those that stood with him and were not ashamed- 2 Timothy 1:15-18 • A change in what causes us shame is an indicator of a changing heart -2Timothy 1:7,8 “do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel…”
We Must Learn To Never Be Ashamed Of God • To Know God we become committed to the light and become ashamed of darkness – John 3:19-21; Ephesians 5:8-13; 1 John 1:5; 5:2,3,20 • God tells us exactly what He will do & rest assured He will keep His word!
We Must Learn To Never Be Ashamed Of God • We need to think and choose upon a doctrinal core – honest and open • Psalm 119:5,6, 46,47,78-80, 116 • Truth brings a willingness to be tested & to communicate with others • What churches in this area openly as for their beliefs to be tested? • Psalm 1:1,2
One Day We Will Desire That God Is Not Ashamed Of Us • What will we hear when we stand before God? Mark 8:38 • We must not be ashamed of or cast off those who serve God! • Satan will test every follower of God- Isaiah 50:6,7 • Matthew 26:67 • Ezekiel 3:8,9
Look at the rapidly changing practices of churches • Why is this happening? • Abandoning God’s word & the teaching it demands, caused to be pulled with the changing standards of the world • Let’s seek to be challenged & changed by the distinctive teaching that comes from God- 2 Timothy 2:15
