LOVE IS WILLING TO FORGIVE • Understand what forgiveness is • The Greek word that is used in Matt. 18 for forgive means literally to “release, throw away, to loose yourself from something” • To forgive, as Jesus intended, means to let go of a grudge; to “throw away the resentment we feel from being wronged.” • More importantly, it means to “loose ourselves” from these feelings of hostility and urge to retaliate, get back at person.”
LOVE IS WILLING TO FORGIVE • Understand what forgiveness is NOT • Forgiveness does not always mean “pardon” • The offender is still held accountable • Forgiveness does not always mean “restoration” • Just because I forgive you, doesn’t mean I trust you
LOVE IS WILLING TO FORGIVE • Realize God allowed the offense to sanctify you • Thank God for the opportunity to grow • Pray for God to reveal hidden sin • Praise God for the work He is doing
