  2. PRE-WRITING There are many different ways to start writing a paper. The over all step is called pre-writing, but there are different ways to do it, for example: • free-writing • mapping • listing • brainstorming • outlining • charting

  3. Free-writing Is when you start writing about a topic and you force your self to keep writing for five minutes without stopping. Mapping Is when you put your main topic in the center of a paper and then, you write things about the topic branching of from the it. Listing Is when you write down as many things you know about the topic in words or phrases. Brainstorming Is when you think of as many ideas as possible in a short amount of time. Looping Is when you start free-writing and then when you are done free-writing you circle one word or phrase and write about it. Outlining Is when you write the main topics of what you are writing about and some things describing the topic under it. Charting Is when you separate your ideas into different groups like emotions.

  4. DRAFTING • Is when you first start writing your paper. Take all your ideas from your pre-writing and sort the good ideas from the bad ideas. Figure out where and how you want to put the good ideas in the paper. You don’t worry about grammar or editing yet.

  5. ORGANIZING • Organizing is when you move sentences around and figure out where you want them to go. Separate your ideas into categories, make sure every thing is in chronological order, and you can change your paragraphs.

  6. REVISING • Go over the paper and fix all of the grammar, capitalization errors, and spelling errors. • To help you revise a paper you and a friend could switch papers and revise each others. • The more people revise your paper the less possibility there is that you will have any errors. • You should also double check your revision.

  7. PUBLISHING • Get out a new clean sheet of paper and rewrite your story. This time write in your neatest hand writing and make sure there are no mistakes in the paper.

  8. How many steps are there in the writing process • Name three things you learned • Name at least 3 different types of pre-writing • What is the definition of drafting? • What is the definition of publishing? • What is the difference between organizing and editing?
