  1. James James Chapter 4 Theme: The emptiness of the world

  2. James

  3. James 4:1-2 1From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? 2Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

  4. James 4:1-2 Envy and Strife in the Bible Lot and Abraham (Gen 13). Absalom and David (2 Sam 13-18). Disciples quarreling (Luke 9:46-48). Corinthians suing in court (1 Cor 6:1-8; 14:23-40). Galatians “devouring one another” (Gal 5:15). Ephesians exhorted to unity (Eph 4:1-16)

  5. James 4:1-2 Kinds of Disagreements in the Bible Class wars (Jam 2:1-9) Labor wars (5:1-) Church fights (1:19-20; 3:13-18) Personal wars (4:11-12) Cf. 1 Pet 4:8; Mt 18:15-19; Gal 6:1-2.

  6. James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

  7. James 4:3 God will hear and answer our prayers if they are in His will and for His Glory to accomplish His plan.

  8. James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

  9. James 4:5-6 5Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy? 6But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

  10. James 4:7-8 7Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

  11. James 4:9-10 9Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

  12. James 4:9-10 18Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope: …20Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! (Isa 5:18 and 29)

  13. James 4:11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.

  14. James 4:12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

  15. James 4:13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:

  16. James 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

  17. James 4:4 Too many people spend their life eating cotton candy. It maybe sweet, but there is no substance. It dissolves it's gone. Those things that you do, things of the flesh, things for the flesh, they are dissolved. They are gone. They're wasted. I have so many times come to the end of the day and thought what a wasted day.

  18. James 4:15-17 15For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. 16But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. 17Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

  19. 2 Peter 2:21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
