  4. Transitive Verb • A transitive verb is a verb that NEEDS a direct object. • Ex: The shelf holds three books and a vase of flowers.

  5. Intransitive Verbs • Intransitive verbs are verbs that DON’T need a direct object. • Ex: Juanita immigrated to the United States.

  6. Now for some more examples!

  7. Example 1 • Juanita had emigrated from Mexico.

  8. Example 2 • Thelawyerprosecuted 3 murderers and 2 thiefs.
