Anthony Fokker Born April 6, 1890 in Kediri, Java, Netherlands East Indies he died 49 years later on Dec. 23, 1939 in New York, N.Y., U.S.A. He was a Dutch-U.S. aircraft designer and manufacturer of the famous Fokker airplane used by the “Red Baron.” He built his first plane in 1910 and taught himself to fly. In 1912 he established a small aircraft factory near Berlin. In World War I he produced over 40 types of airplanes for Germany, having originally offered his designs to both sides. He also developed a gear system that allowed a machine gun to fire through a spinning propeller's field. In 1922 he moved to the U.S. and opened an aircraft factory, where he produced numerous commercial aircraft that were used in the newly developing U.S. airlines business. Vladimir Lenin • Born in 1870 to a civil service worker he grew up in a middle class family and soon faced a tragedy that would shape his life. His father died when he was 16 and his brother was executed the following year for participating in a revolutionary movement. He was furious and set out on a path to overthrow the Tsarist government. For this he was exiled to Siberia for several years and roamed around Europe afterward forming his ideologies and gathering support for a revolution. In 1917 he returned to Russia and led the revolution.
