Bell Ringer

Bell Ringer. In the future, Araceli milks cows. In an especially busy week she milked 8, 12, 7, 12, 19, 12, 15 cows. What is the mean, median, mode, and range of the number of cows Araceli milked? Mean: 8+12+7+12+7+12+5 = 63 ÷ 7 = 9 cows Median: (Order them!) 5, 7, 7, 8, 12, 12, 12

  1. Bell Ringer • In the future, Araceli milks cows. In an especially busy week she milked 8, 12, 7, 12, 19, 12, 15 cows. What is the mean, median, mode, and range of the number of cows Araceli milked? Mean: 8+12+7+12+7+12+5 = 63 ÷ 7 = 9 cows Median: (Order them!) 5, 7, 7, 8, 12, 12, 12 Mode: 12 cows Moo! Moo!

  2. Homework 9. m = -11/13 10. m = -4/5 11. m = 0 12. m = Undefined 13. m = 7/5 14. m = 12/5 15. m = 1/3 16. m = 14/3 1. m = -1 2. m = 2/5 3. m = -5/4 4. m = 2 5. m = 10/9 6. m = -3/5 7. m = 10/9 8. m = 1

  3. More Slope GRE 403: Exhibit knowledge of slope

  4. What is Slope? ◊Remember our formula from yesterday… ◊We will expand it and find slope without graphing.

  5. Slope Formula • If we know two points on the line, we can use the following formula to find the slope: Huh?? Where did that come from? y2 – y1 m = x2 – x1 Where, (x1, y1) (x2, y2) are points on the line.

  6. Say What???? The slope is the change in “y” divided by the change in “x”. (x2, y2) This is the rise! . y2–y1 change in y . (x1, y1) x2–x1 change in x This is the run!

  7. Finding Slope ◊ Find the slope of the line passing through the points (2, 3) and (-1, 9). First label the points: (2, 3) (-1, 9) (x1, y1) (x2, y2)

  8. Finding Slope ◊ Next, substitute the points into our slope formula: (2, 3) (-1, 9) y2 – y1 m = x2 – x1 9 – 3 m = -1 – 2 6 m = m = -2 = -2 -3

  9. Let’s see that again… • Find the slope of the line passing through the points (-3, 2) and (5, 6): 4 6– 2 m = = 5– (-3) 8 1 m = 2 That’s it!!! I’m ready for some work on this!

  10. Hold on…Problems!!!! ◊Find the slope of the line passing through the points (3, 5) and (8, 5) (x1, y1) (x2, y2) 5 – 5 Yeah, buddy! 0 m = = 8 – 3 5 m = 0 This is a horizontal line!

  11. Problems!!!! ◊Find the slope of the line passing through the points (2, 4) and (2, 7) (x1, y1) (x2, y2) 7 – 4 3 You will get an error message if you try to divide this on the calculator! m = = 2 – 2 0 m = Undefined This is a vertical line!

  12. You try it… • Find the slope of the lines passing through these points: a. (2, -5) (4, 3) m = 4 b. (-5, 1) (5, 6) m = ½ c. (4, -2) (4, 7) m = undefined I got this! Now can I please have some work!
