Health and Safety Policy Statement • Employer commitment to preventing work related injury/illness in the workplace. • Responsibilities • Employer to maintain an safe and healthy work place • Employee to work safely following safe work practices • Supervisor to ensure that safe and healthy work conditions are maintained in assigned work area. • Statement is posted and available on Intranet. • Section 25 OHSA

Employer’s roles and responsibilities Providing a safe and healthy workplace Establishing and maintaining a health and safety program Ensuring workers are trained or certified, as required Reporting accidents and cases of occupational disease to the appropriate authority Providing workers with health and safety information Providing the workers with appropriate first aid services Ensuring that personal protective equipment is available and in good condition Supporting supervisors in their health and safety activities Evaluating health and safety performance of supervisors Sections 25, 26 OHSA

Supervisor’s roles and responsibilities • Instructing workers to follow safe work practices • Enforcing health and safety regulations • Correcting unsafe acts and unsafe conditions • Ensuring that only authorized, adequately trained workers operate equipment • Reporting and investigating all accidents/incidents • Inspecting own area and taking remedial action to minimize or eliminate hazards • Ensuring equipment is properly maintained • Promoting safety awareness among workers • Section 27 OHSA

Employee’s roles and responsibilities • Using personal protective equipment and required by the employer • Following safe work procedures • Knowing and complying with all regulations • Reporting injury or illness immediately • Reporting unsafe acts and unsafe conditions • Participating in joint health and safety committees • Section 28 OHSA

Reporting work-related injuries, illnesses and/or diseases existing hazards and potentially unhealthy or unsafe conditions An Employee Incident Report must be completed for all incidents, which occur at the work place and cause an injury/fatality or pose a risk to the health and/or safety of an employee. Reporting Examples of types of incidents include, but are not limited to: client action exposure (blood, body fluids or airborne) hit/struck/bumped assault: verbal, physical, sexual reoccurrence of previous work-related injury harassment: verbal, physical, sexual, racial threat to safety automobile accident fall/slip

Safe Driving Program Many of the employees use their vehicles for work purposes and as part of NSM CCAC’s health and safety initiatives this program will increase the awareness of the risks associated with driving and potentially reduce the number of motor vehicle incidents. Your car if required for your work is considered the workplace. Safe Driving Program Policy

  16. Safe Driving Program Attend training at orientation and periodically as required. Operate vehicle in accordance with the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, CCAC Safe Driving Program and other applicable guidelines. Operate a vehicle which is defined as a car or truck. Motorcycle travel for work purposes is not allowed. Maintain personal vehicle used for work to the standards of the Highway Traffic Act and manufacturers’ specifications and arranging for periodic inspection by a qualified mechanic. Provide required driving-related documentation (driver’s license and proof of insurance) to employer. Report to your manager if you have accumulated more than 9 demerit points.

  17. Safe Driving Program Report to your manager if you have a change in your driver status (ie., not able to legally drive). To arrange for alternate transportation if your vehicle is being repaired during work hours or if license is suspended. Required to use seat belt. Prepare for journey. Prohibited from operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs during business operations. The use of a cell phone while driving is strictly prohibited.

  18. Safe Driving Program Should an accident occur involving an employee during the course of driving for business operations, regardless of the severity, location or fault, it must be reported to the local law enforcement authority, the employee’s manager and the human resources office. It is the responsibility of the driver to maintain adequate and valid comprehensive liability insurance for the vehicle used for work purposes. Will not transport client(s). Driving Video
