Setting Goals within Framework • What is a goal? • Why set a goal? • How do we know when we’ve achieved it? • Assignment A - SMART Goal and Improvement Plan
SMART Goal Focus Area • Domain 3: Instruction • Component 3d: Providing Feedback to Students
My Goal • To provide effective feedback to teacher-candidates.
My SMART Goal • To provide feedback to teacher-candidates in General Instructional Methods within two weeks of giving the assignment, using rubrics that are provided to the teacher-candidates prior to their turning in of the assignment.
SMART Goal Justification • I personally like written feedback that is specific to the assignment. • I want to continue my work in designing formative and summative assessments that require more engagement on the students part. • This will help me prepare for a teacher workshop that I will host regarding assessment. • Finally, between other work and family responsibilities I can easily fall behind in returning student work.
My Improvement PlanIn order to achieve my goal I need to: • Review the lesson plan rubric and course rubric with Block faculty to ensure their relevancy and reliability. • Have all rubrics created prior to giving assignments. All assignments can be accessed on my website.
My Improvement Plan cont. • In addition to using the rubric I will also write specific comments to provide more constructive feedback for the teacher-candidate. • I will meet every week with Block One faculty to discuss assignments and assessment. • I will consult my calendar on a regular basis to be sure I return items within two week time period!
My Improvement Plan cont. • I will have teacher-candidates fill out an evaluation about my work towards my goal. • Use information gained from evaluations to help prepare for teacher workshop on assessment.
Professional Development Plan • Examples of goal setting as part of contractual agreement: • PDP • PDP Winter Progress Report • PDP Spring Progress Report
