  2. A look At Making The Choice Of The Best Bicycle Multitude is the word here when we think of the many different types and styles of bi- cycles. You will need to give consideration whenever you decide on the type of biking you will be mostly doing in order to help you pin down your choices. Following are just some of the types of bicycles available on the market today. The next type of bike which is slightly more rugged than the comfort bike is a trail bike or light duty mountain bike. These bikes can take a bit more rough and rugged stuff than the bikes mentioned above but are not meant for dedicat- ed mountain biking. For those who go long distances and faster than recreational bike riders Touring bicycles are the bomb. These bikes are built for riding on the pavement. They are the light weight bikes with more shock absorbency than your everyday comfort bikes. The first bicycles we will examine here are what are considered by people to be com- fort bikes. These are the ones used by most weekend recreational bicycle riders. They typically have a comfortable shock-absorb- ing seat and shock absorbing front forks and wide pedals. Cruiser bikes come heavier than the comfort bikes with fatter tires. They are exceptional for the road, or if you like riding in the sand. True mountain bikes have a stronger frame and components than any other bike as they are manufactured for off road and rugged terrain. The tires on a mountain bike are knobby and wide for more shock support. Their seat and handlebars are positioned to allow for the rider to lean over while handling the bike. Recumbent bicycles are becoming very popular with older riders and those who are somewhat limited in their physical ability. A rider reclines while pedaling in a feet forward position. The seats are much more comfortable than on any other bicycle. Recumbent bikes sit low to the ground and have a number of gears. Discuss with family and friends who own bikes to get their opinion on what may be the best investment for you. If you don’t think that you’ll stick with bike riding long term and if you don’t plan to do more than weekend riding you don’t need to spend a fortune. Visit several bicycles shops and talk with the pro’s before you make a decision. You can get many years of enjoyment once you choose the right bike for you. 3. Mountain Biking’s Winter Park Colorado USA Having claim to 600 miles of trails, there’s need to wonder how Win- ter Park happened to have earned the title of Mountain Bike Capital USA. At it’s resort alone you will happen to come upon 50 miles of single-track trails accessible by chair lifts and well marked with signs pointing out skill levels. Hav- ing got to the top of the lifts you may want to step into the Sunspot for a quick bite to tease the pallet as you enjoy the 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains. Here you can choose runs like the Upper Arapahoe, the resort’s downhill race course, or wind down The Long Trail for a 7-mile novice’s introduc- tory ride. at the Winter Park Resort, including the grand finale… The King of the Rockies. You can access repairs, rentals and shops are easy to find, whether you are at the resort, or downtown Winter Park. You can also find a wide variety of restaurants and bars, with food that is just as good as it is diverse. The Fraser Valley beckons you to come enjoy the trails of the Rocky Mountain wilderness while cradled by spectacular mountain views all over. These trails follow babbling brooks, glide through meadows of wildflowers and trek up majestic rugged mountains. Music sounds better against a backdrop like the Continental Divide, and you just might find out for yourself, as there are music festivals and concerts happening almost every weekend during the Summer. Events like the Jazz Festival and the Food, Wine & Beer Festival may require advance planning for stays in Winter Park. It would be impossible to cover all of the mountain bike trails of Winter Park and the Fraser Valley in this short article. However, once you get to there, there are quite a number of free mountain bike trail guides that can be found at the multitude of estab- lishments. There are races that are open to the general public all throughout the summer, and are available to many diverse skill levels. Almost a major- ity of the races either start or end Reside just a five minute walk from the bottom of Winter Park Resort. Slope View Bed and Breakfast offers views of the Continental Divide, uniquely special amenities and a truly knowledgeable staff. https://topbikenet.com https://topbikenet.com 5 4

  4. Key West Bike Tour is an Island Bike Adventure! Bring your t-shirt, shorts, sneakers and a camera . . . and take home memories! The Bike Tour of Key West, www.keywestbikeecotour.com, takes guests into the Key West of yesteryear the 19th Century village at the edge of the tropics. Guests bicycle from one side of this lush, green, tropical island to the other. Bicycle along the beach; through tree-shrouded streets and shady, hidden lanes; through the “Presidential Gate” in the Old Navy Base, along the old waterfront and into history. They will discover the Key West of the natives! Christian Rieger, president of the parent corporation, The Bike Tour of Key West Z, Inc., says, “Our team of professional guides wend and wind guests through the nooks and crannies of this sea-faring town at the edge of a continent. They see small cottages and grand old mansions amidst stately palms and lofty mahogany trees. They get the full gamut of this city of 19th century ship salvagers, cigar-makers, and spongers.” The island’s association with American history started in 1821 with a merchant by the name of John Simonton. This well-heeled, New Jersey-born man had been treasurer of that state’s first chartered bank. He had a few bucks in his pocket and appreciated the strategic value of Key West. He sailed to Havana and bought it from Juan P. Salas for $2,000 cash. $2,000 was then like a couple of million dollars is today. All things considered, it was quite a deal because as a local once said, “You can’t hardly buy a tree for that.” Cycling Training Plans And Books Soon after the purchase, New England seafarers, Bahamians, and Cubans settled on the island. Back then it was then v-e-r-y isolated from the rest of America. It was at the end of a string of small islands extending down from the vast semi-tropical wilderness of the Everglades. The two closest Floridian cities were Panama City on the west coast, and St. Augustine on the east coast. No cars, no planes, no trains, and no Miami. Just boats, mosquitos, and lots of distance between here and anywhere else. These were less hurried times. “Although busier today,” says Rieger, “The bike tour takes guests as if through a time warp to those simpler, easier-paced times.” http://bit.ly/2SHbjkS Along the way, participants see quaint old cottages and grand old Victorian mansions that hail from a century and a half ago. Guests visit a place visitors to Key West rarely get to see what Key West looked like before human settlement. “We visit a one-acre, Private Rain Forest Preserve replete with parrots, orchids, bamboos, stately palms and majestic mahogany trees. Most participants think this is the highlight of the tour. It is part of someone’s home, and travelers rarely get to visit the grounds of a private residence even more so one looks like a rain forest. https://topbikenet.com https://topbikenet.com 7 6

  5. “Fat Bikes” – Not Only For Mountains “We also bicycle along a beach with Cuba 90 miles to our south. There is a stop with a photo op at the Southernmost Point. Just before the end of end of the tour, we visit a Key Lime bakery for a complimentary piece of Key West’s favorite dessert Key Lime Pie. This is made the classical way with real Key Limes, sweetened condensed milk, egg yolks and graham cracker crust.” Just as with any sport, bicycling has not remained rigid over the years. Lovers of the many spoked sport always find new ways to challenge themselves, and in this article we present you with a list of some of the mountain biking disciplines Join the Key West Bike eco Tour smell the tropical air, the salt sea and witness the history of Key West in what one newspaper said “has the most unique history in the United States.” When most people think of mountain biking, they think of climbing up to the top of a mountain and then riding down it again. However, there are plenty of opportunities for the fat-tire enthusiast, and the disciplines are growing every year as riders find new ways to challenge themselves. Below is just a brief list of some of the biking disciplines associated with mountain biking. For each discipline, you’ll be able to find bikes especially made for the different challenges they present, and the different skills needed. 1. Cross country Just as its name implies, fat-tire enthusiasts bike across country – specifically hilly country to test the rider’s endurance. 2. BMX BMX stands for bicycle motocross. The cycles used are specially designed to operate on a dirt track: a groomed racecourse made up of various jumps, banked and flat corners, and therefore have small wheel diameters – 20-inches, and fat tires. The sport began in California in the late 1960s, as young boys began emulating their motocross heroes, and is now popular around the world. 3. Dirt jumping The idea with dirt jumping is not so much the jumping but what tricks the rider can do while he is air borne. The idea is not to get around the course as fast as possible but to have the most air time and do the most stunts in the air. 4. Cyclo cross A cyclo cross bike is a road bike with powerful brakes, extra mud clearance, and tires that aren’t exactly fat but do have knobs on. These bikes are used for Cyclo cross racing, a sport which began in Europe, as off-season training for road racers. The courses are a mile long, and are partly paved and partly mud-soaked to give the rider all kinds of challenges. Also on the course are a certain number of barricades, forcing the rider to dismount and carry his bike over them. Everyone races flat out. 5. Freeriding Photo by Santiago Pazos Bordon on Unsplash A newbie, Freeriding is a sport that has just recently come into vogue. 6. made obstacles such as teeter totters and skinny bridges, and can take place in-doors as well as out on specially prepared mountain courses. 6. Downhill As the name implies, downhill biking means getting down the hill as fast as possible, much like downhill skiing. It’s a time trial event – bikers don’t ride together but rather start down the course at intervals. This is because the way down is not smooth – there are plenty of obstacles to negotiate along the way. 7. Single speed Those who like the uncluttered life will use a bike with only one gear and fewer components. The idea is simplicity. The racers however still go all out – both up and down courses. This sport is popular around the world. 8. Urban Most cities were not designed for the bicyclist – and people on two wheels are resented by those on four. And then there are the pedestrians… However, people who don’t live near mountains or hills have not let that stop them from creating challenging, man-made courses – with all the obstacles available in urban areas.
