  4. We utilize 5basic methods to characterize a character(determine characterization)

  6. #1 DIALOGUE Anything that is said between characters… whether or not the character being analyzed is involved or not

  7. #2 What the narrator tells us about the character/ NARRATOR’S INSIGHTS (This would also include the character’s thoughts unless the literary work is written in 1st person)

  8. #3 PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION of character being analyzed

  9. #4 The analyzed CHARACTER’S ACTIONS

  10. #5 OTHER CHARACTERS’ REACTIONS (Reactions to what the analyzed character said or did)
