Global Medical Training is an International Humanitarian Organization that provides medical services to poor communities in Central American countries. Our main purpose is to offer healthcare students and professionals a truly international experience that will expand their understanding of medicine and life outside of the United States.
OBJECTIVES • Providing free healthcare services to the needy in central America. • Teaching / training students and requiring crucial participation from them in the process of providing supervised healthcare, including medical assessment and the development of a treatment plan. • Providing the students with a first hand experience of the cultural, social, historical and political life in this region.
METHOD Students will be brought to medical environments (community clinics) where they will be allowed to observe and actively participate in professional medical interactions with patients who have scarce economic and medical resources. This will be done in various settings: urban and rural.
COUNTRIES VISITED GMT currently works in Nicaragua and Panama and we are expanding to serve more countries. Although the choices are all Spanish speaking countries, language will not be a problem since we have translators with the students at all times.
OUR TRIPS AND PROGRAM GMT welcomes groups ranging from 10 to 20 students for a period of 8 to 12 days. We can customize this experience for a group according to their schedule and particular requirements. GMT will provide transportation for all the programmed activities.
Who are we looking for? Pre-healthcare students, medical students, and anyone who wants to be part of a life changing experience and serving in a Central American country, will benefit the most. Participants are not required to have any foreign language skills. There are no specific academic requirements.
Tourism Options Intermixed with several days of medical clinics at various locations, there will be many tourism options. Clinic days will be intense, and this is not a tourism trip. HOWEVER, it will certainly be pleasurable, entertaining, and enriching. Beaches, volcanoes, aerial tram, boating, hiking to waterfalls, museums, hot springs swimming, birding, rain forest, monkey viewing walks, and more. At the end of the trip all the group members are taken to the airport and helped to safely board their flights back home.
Our Advantages vStrong medical orientation: GMT assigns a high priority to all medical and teaching aspects of the trip. This includes the safety and welfare of all participants. vStudent satisfaction centered: Our success is highly dependant upon the overall satisfaction of the participants. We undertake frequent evaluations of our staff and all the project aspects. vHighly trained staff Our staff is trained and supervised by GMT management. We take great pride in the quality of their skills and high levels of our service.
