What Have We Done So Far? • Met with each senior English class to cover: • Graduation requirements/transcript review • ACT dates/registration process, College Fair, Admission & Scholarship Applications & Deadlines, Transcript Requests, FAFSA, Letters of Recommendation, College Visits

ACT • Oct 23 (late deadline Oct. 1) • Dec 11 (deadline Nov 5) • Seniors who want to retake it should do so NO LATER than Dec. 2010 • ECTC Workshops ($39 a class), http://legacy.elizabethtown.kctcs.edu/ced/enroll.cfm • ACT Power Prep program. $200 software offered for $13 to HCS students: www.eknowledge.com/USA
Heartland Regional College Fair • Here at CHHS on Sept. 30 from 6 -8 p.m. • Currently 40+ colleges have RSVP’d • Financial Aid Info Sessions at 6:15 & 7:15 • GREAT for seniors (and juniors)!
What are colleges looking for? • GPA + ACT • Rigorous curriculum • Rank in class • Involvement in activities (clubs, sports, organizations) • Volunteer experiences • THE WELL ROUNDED STUDENT!
College Visits According to school policy: students enrolled in Honors or AP English may take 2 college visits that do not count as absences to school. Requests to use these dates must be made in the guidance office PRIOR (policy says 2 weeks) to the visit in order to complete proper paperwork.
Scholarships • Types • Academic (given by colleges) • Local (given by businesses and organizations) • KEES • National (www.fastweb.com, www.zinch.com , www.scholarships.com ) • Athletic (given by colleges) • Students are responsible for applying for these and for requesting transcripts, letters of recommendation, etc. • Letters of recommendation should be submitted 2 wks in advance, along with an academic resume, to allow time for a good letter!
KEES Account • www.kheaa.com> Students & Parents > Scholarship Programs for KY Residents > Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES) • Must register to access your KEES Account • Receive $$ for GPA + ACT • 1-800-928-8926 ext. 7397 for questions • $$ Directly transfers from KEES to college • Does not occur until admitted, enrolled and in attendance
Financial Aid • Cannot file FAFSA until January 2011 • Must use 2010 tax information • FAFSA forms online only at www.fafsa.ed.gov • DO NOT pay to file your FAFSA form. There are many sites out there that try to scam students and parents. (fafsa.com, fafsa.net, etc.)
