Organizing Information to Effectively Manage the International Program May 27, 2002 Andrew Fanara fanara.andrew@epa.gov
How Should We Organize Program Information & Data? • Task at Hand • Identify and track programmatic information • Primary Types of Information • (1) Program contact information • Correspondence between contacts • (2) Mfg. Partner contact information • (3) Mfg. Product/model information
Benefits of Data Management • Program contacts • Facilitate communication • Consistently apply program rules across countries • Evaluate participation & energy savings • Manufacturers • Consistent information about program rules • Greater ease submitting contact & product data • Consumers/Buyers • Current & comprehensive product list
Progress Since Last Meeting • Developing a message board • Facilitate communication between country contacts • 4 to 8 weeks to implement • EPA developing new database (istar) & web site • www.energystar.gov • Partner, product models, product development process • Give Partners ability to update information directly • Formulating long term vision for managing partner & product data
Next Steps • Short Term • Data needs analysis • What information does each country have? • How is information managed? • Plan for exchanging information with EPA • Long Term • Formulate & implement vision for data management
Data Needs Analysis • Confirm our need to manage data • Contacts / Partners / Products & models • What’s current state of our information? • Database or spreadsheet? • Access, Oracle, Excel, static documents • Quantity and frequency of updating • How is it used? • Program evaluation • Distributed to consumers -- web site • Export/email data to EPA for review • Readable format (Access or Excel preferred) • Exchange IT contact information
Goals of data needs analysis • Understand and assess the current status of the international program • Help to define our long term plan for improved management of program information
