Megan Duff 1st Grade
Class Rules 1. Always be respectful. Being respectful is very important. If I were disrespectful and said “Mrs. Hernandez, you’re so stupid!” not only would she lose respect for me, but I would be in trouble as well. I will teach this rule by introducing it every day for the first week of school. Then throughout the year I will lead by example showing each student and adult I encounter respect. 2. Believe in yourself. Believing in yourself is the key to success. If no one believed in themselves where would we be today? Anyone who ever did something successful had to first believe in themselves, so keep your chin up. I will teach this rule by introducing it every day for the first week of school. Then I will always encourage students to do their best, reassuring them that if they believe in themselves anything is possible. 3. Follow all school rules. The school rules are in place for a reason. These rules insure safety and fun, if we didn’t follow them things would be crazy! I will teach this rule by introducing it every day for the first week of school. Then I will go more in depth with the class on what the school rules are, covering anything they will need to understand to be behaviorally successful at school.
Board ESOL Student Good Student Book Shelf Book Shelf Good Student ESE Student Problem Student Problem Student Projector Door Supply Table Teacher’s Desk Pencil Sharpener
Rationale for Classroom Layout I have placed a bookshelf on each side of the room, this is so there will be minimal crowding and chaos when students need to pick up their reading. The pencil sharpener and supply table are placed in the back of the room, side by side. Students will always know where to go for any supplies and there will be less disruption than if these were to be placed in the front. The “Problem Students” have been placed in the back. These students are positioned closest to me, where I will be able to prevent any misbehavior and they will not have the opportunity to disrupt other students. The ESOL and ESE students have been put in a group with good, or “Excelling Students”, who will not only help these students to learn, but set a good example as well. The projector and board have been placed corresponding with each other. I will be able to control the projector from my desk and the board will be visible from anywhere in the room. My desk is placed in the back of the room. From this point I am able to see the door, the bookshelves, the supply table, the pencil sharpener, the board, and most importantly each student.
Rewards and Consequences • Each time a student is caught doing the right thing they will receive a gold star and at the end of each month their stars will be tallied up. The person with the most stars will receive a special prize and the preceding ten students will receive a treat. • When students are caught showing good character I will secretly enter them into the “Student of the Week” drawing. Once a student is “Student of the Week” they become my designated helper for that week and are awarded 5 stars. • Consequences will come in steps: • 1: Warning • 2: 1 Star taken away • 3: Call home • 4: Referral
Routines and Procedures • My “Student of the Week” will be responsible for passing out and taking up papers. • I will have a bathroom pass students may use after they have politely asked. • The students will always have 2 sharpened pencils out, keeping sharpening pencils from being an issue. If a student must sharpen their pencil they may quietly get up and walk to the pencil sharpener. • There will be a group leader, which rotates each week, who will get supplies and books for everyone at their table. • 2 Minutes before it’s time to go anywhere I will line up the class and take attendance (we will walk down the hallway in a line), they will be dismissed by me.
