How its produced? • Solar energy is produced from solar radiation. • At the earth's surface, it is called infrared radiation where it is captured through the aid of photovoltaic or solar cells. • Once harnessed, the sunlight is absorbed into these photovoltaic/solar cells. • These cells are non-mechanical devices that are made from silicon alloys. • The most common design is pipes that box carry liquids transferring heat from the box into the building. This heated liquid then heats the water in a tank or is passed through radiators to heat the air.
How it is transported to the consumer? • Once the cells are charged, the power is stored until it is ready to be used. • The amount of power that can be generated by these cells depends on the amount of sunlight that reaches them. • This will vary based on location, number of daylight hours, climate and more.
How the consumer will use this energy • The four broad categories that can use solar energy are: Industrial, rural habitation, grid-connected, and consumer/indoor. • Household energy supply for your appliances and heating water. • Roadside call boxes, Telecommunications, oil companies, highway safety equipment and lighted highway signs already rely on solar energy
