How The Cheese Got Its Name • Muenster cheese originated in France by a group of vegetarian monks in the Alsace region. • The monks had to ration milk and find a way to feed the group so they created Muenster cheese. • Muenster comes from the word “Monastery”
How The Cheese Got Its Business • The French made muenster cheese started to gain popularity because of its taste & simplicity. • It spread to Germany, where it was changed a little bit, the Germans called it Münster cheese.
