  4. Steps in Addition and Subtraction of Algebraic Expression • Add or subtract the numerical coefficient of similar terms only. • Affix the corresponding literal coefficient. Example:1 5 x2y + 8 x2y (5+8) x2 y 13 x2 y

  5. Example :2 4 x - 3 y + 5 x - 8 x + 7 y - 9 y2 (4+5-8) x + (-3+7) y + (-9y2) 1 x + 4 y + (-9y2) x + 4y - 9y2
