  2. Parables • Parabole: to compare side by side • (Matthew 13:13) • "Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand. (NKJV)

  3. Why didn’t they understand? • (Matthew 13:15) • For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.' (NKJV)

  4. How might we understand? • (Matthew 13:17) "for assuredly, I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it. (NKJV)

  5. How might we understand? • (Matthew 7:7-8) • "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. "For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. (NKJV)

  6. We Judge Ourselves Through Accepting Or Rejecting the Word of God • (Acts 13:46) • Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold and said, "It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken to you first; but since you reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles. (NKJV)

We Judge Ourselves Through Accepting Or Rejecting the Word of God • (Hebrews 4:12) • For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (NKJV)

  9. True followers had “dirty minds” (fertile hearts) ready to discover and accept God’s word! • (Mark 4:10) But when He was alone, those around Him with the twelve asked Him about the parable. (NKJV)

The Seed (Word) Will Fall On Four Types of Hearts • Disbelieving heart • Have you tried to understand? • (Proverbs 1:5) • A wise man will hear and increase learning, And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel, • (Proverbs 2:6) • For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;

  14. Worldly Heart • (Matthew 6:24) • "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. (NKJV)
