OCHH Background • “A place of compassion for end-of-life care” • Nonprofit organization located in the Ventura and Northwestern Los Angeles Counties • Conejo Valley, Agoura, Calabasas, Malibu, Simi Valley and Moorpark • Free-standing, 8-bed hospice house
OCHH Background • All of the services will be provided free to patients and families. • OCHH will be a replicable model for future hospice houses in other communities • Provide a peaceful place to care for 8 terminally ill people in the last 3 months of life • Learning center for education on end-of-life issues.
Mission Statement A commitment to provide compassionate, dignified quality care that will support the natural processes that occur in the final days of life
Market Needs Analysis • 3.8 million senior population in CA. • Above 65 years, is rising at 20% annually. • Above 85 years, is rising at 60.5 % annually • 6.3% are living below the poverty level • 1 in 3 seniors over 65 are living alone without access to a caregiver • In Ventura County • 15 homeless people died on our street in 2005 • No Hospice House from Santa Barbara to San Diego • Primary service area: Conejo Valley, Moorpark, Simi Valley, Camarillo, Malibu and Calabasas Source – Ventura County Census Bureau
Objectives • Raise a critical amount of capital to be able to • Begin search for (in 2007) and purchase a suitable property by the middle of 2008 • Begin construction and end by end of year 2009 • Open Hospice House in January 2010 • Annual Fundraising Targets, end of year • 2007 $ 900K • 2008 1.5m • 2009 1.8m (includes 2 years operating costs) • 2010 600K • 2011 Onwards = $ 1M /year • Establish relationships with universities to utilize the Hospice house for educational purposes
Fundraising Strategy • Special Events • Partnerships with corporate sponsors • Event photography company donating percentage of large sporting events • Grants from State and Federal and private foundations • Donations from Universities and other educational programs • Charitable contributions • donations from families served, memorials, gifts from community members
Promotion Strategy • Develop good relations with local media • Newspaper, magazine, radio • Committee members will organize focus groups • Community leaders, churches, healthcare professionals and others • Provide professional brochures and video presentations to promote OCHH services • Speaking at community service club meetings to gain support and contacts
