  3. Description of the organization • Founded in 1881 by visionary leader Clara Barton • Volunteer-led ,humanitarian Organization headquartered in Washington, DC. • Provides emergency assistance, disaster relief and education within the United States. • Include community service for the needy , communication and comfort to the military members, processing and distribution blood, involvement in international relief and program developments.

  4. Issues, Concepts , Topics… • Fear of infection discovery • Communication • Positive attitude at all times • Diversity – no barriers of race, color, etc

  5. Team civic engagement • Volunteered at American Red Cross locations in Omaha, NE. • Helped donors getting refreshments at the Red cross canteen after they donated blood. • Shared donor’s experiences

  6. Volunteer opportunities: Blood donation • Every minute of every day, someone needs blood. That blood can only come from a volunteer donor. There is no substitute for donation.  • A blood donation occurs when a healthy person voluntarily has blood drawn and used for transfusions. • The actual process takes 20minutes • All donated blood is extensively tested Before being distributed.

  7. ARTICLES • Donating blood to the Red Cross: my scare ( Sept. 15th, 2010). • The story of Patrick Earley, a Huntington Beach man who has been donating platelets for 18 years

  8. Increase awareness of blood donating

  9. KEYS TO ARTICULATE LEARNING • We learned, that donating blood may not only benefit the person who received the blood cells but also improve the health of the donor. • We learned this when we participated as volunteers at the American Red Cross and shared with some donors. • This learning matters because every single blood donation can help save up to 3 lives, and every 2 seconds, someone in America needs blood. • In light of this learning we need to realize the importance of donating blood and getting involved in the process.

  10. THE END • SPECIAL thank you to Megan, Heidi, Judy at American Red Cross located in 132nd and dodge • Any Questions??????
