The Knowledge Network • Top level • Main entry point • Access Topics & Communities • Browse & Search the Library
Overview of the Knowledge Network from a dementia point-of-view
Register for an ATHENS account • Follow ‘Step 1’ on the registration panel or • Use the ‘Register’ link at the top of the MKN page
Logging in to the MKN • Once you’ve received your ATHENS login details, click the ‘Login/Register’ link at the top of the MKN page • Enter your Login & Password
Join the MKN • Click the ‘Join this Community’ link at the top of the MKN page
Dementia Managed Knowledge Network (MKN) • Provides access to dementia resources • Allows sharing of information • Connects to Communities of Practice • Subscribe!
The Resource Library • Contains documents, web links and other Knowledge Network resources • Added by members of the MKN
Searching for Resources • Searching allows members to search the MKN for relevant resources • There is the option to search the wider Knowledge Network too
Sharing a Resource on the MKN • You must be logged in to add resources • Resources can be added from… • The Knowledge Network • A Web address • From your Computer
Discussion Areas • Search to see if a discussion exists first • Discussions are added to discussion areas • Select or Create a discussion area
Create a Discussion • Edit Page to add a discussion to the discussion area
Publish a Discussion • Create the actual discussion • Don’t forget to publish your new content • Editing is very similar
Wikis • Good collaboration tool • Many members can edit the same wiki • Good for showing off team work on specific subjects
Blogs • Let fellow members know about your practice • Build a history of your activity • Show your progress
Communities of Practice • More Specialised than the MKN • MKN Members canapply tojoin • New communities can be created • Same principle as MKN
Navigating to a Community of Practice • All the dementia communities can be found through the MKN • Visitors select the ‘Communities of Practice’ button on the MKN menu • A list of all dementia CoPs will be shown
Navigating to a Community of Practice • Select a community to see more information about it • Notice the description of the community is still within the MKN
Privacy Considerations and Communities • Everything in a Closed Community is separate from the dementia MKN • Promote sharing and highlight practice in an Open Community • Private discussions in an Open Community can provide the right level of privacy whilst feeding the wider dementia network
