Heat Energy 5th Grade
How is Heat Transferred? All matter is made up of tiny particles that are always moving. Since they move, they have kinetic energy, also called thermal energy. The faster the particles move, the more thermal energy the matter has. Thermal energy is transferred when particles from one substance come in contact with particles from another substance that are moving at a different rate. Heat: is the transfer of thermal energy between objects with different temperatures. Thermal energy travels from a warmer object to a cooler object.
How is Heat Transferred? Energy from the stove burner flows through the pot and into the water, causing it to get hot. Energy doesn’t travel from the low-temperature water to the high-temperature burner.
What is Temperature? Temperature:is the measurement of the averagekinetic energy of all the particles in a substance. You can measure temperature with a thermometer. The number shown on a thermometer is related to the amount of kinetic energy in a substance. Some systems are very efficient at transferring thermal energy. ASystem is a group of separate elements working together to accomplish something.(or it's a set of parts acting together as a whole object).
What is Temperature? A burner, a pot, and water are a system through which Thermal energy moves. The burner transfers thermal energy to the pot. The pot transfers thermal energy to the water. As the water receives more and more Thermal energy, its particles move faster & faster.
