ARNOLD Update Tom Roff HPMS Program Manager
Review Requirements • June 2014 • Plan – June 2013 • All Public Roads as identified in the Certified Public Miles • Dual Carriageway representation • Measured file • OGC Compliant for simple features • Topologically connected
Dual Carriageway Representation • Recommended definition from FHWA • Median width is greater or equal to 4 feet • Or Median Type is a positive barrier • A state may have another definition that applies to their business needs. FHWA does not want to interfere with those practices. Joe’s study may flush this out more.
Plans • Depending on how the plan results are analyzed, • 60 to 75 percent of states claim they can meet June 2014 due date. • The plans revealed that: • States are looking for detailed guidelines for the task at hand • States are looking for assistance to work with locals • Money is great but management at all levels are not convinced • Resources in the State • Time relative to task is not balanced
Deadline Request Extension • FHWA will not formally extend the date of the requirement. • We will take requests to extend the requirement to individual states • Only one state has asked for the extension so far.
Federal Lands Component • Just starting the conversation • Look at National Parks Service as starting point in establishing a process
Topology • Routing is a component at a certain level • Freight has discovered ARNOLD
FHWA/Census Partnership • The End game is to provide Census with an authoritative source for Highways to be represented in TIGER • We meet with Census every other week on Thursday @ 2:30 • We have begun a Pilot partnership to look at how this process
Transportation Subcommittee • Defining Transportation Bridges • Reviewing and gathering Federal agency requirements for ARNOLD • Next Meeting will be in late Jan/Feb • Encourage participation
