District Policy • Definition of “Extended Field Trip”Any field trip which requires at least two consecutive school days and overnight stays with a five day maximum.
Field Trip Rotations • Musicis allowed one Extended Trip every other year.
Who gets to go? • Eligible musicstudents • Required chaperones • Parents/relatives who wish to take advantage of the group rates
What does eligible mean? Students must be a “full time” band student. Full time means a student who has been enrolled both the year prior and the year of the trip. Freshman students must have been in band 8th grade.
Additional Student Requirements • Students must have an exemplary performance attendance record. • Student classroom and activity demeanor must be above average. • Students must have the ability to accept responsibility and follow directions
Planning Challenges • Number of participants. • Number of instruments/uniforms. • Number of instrument parts needed.
The “Bottom Line” • No student wishing to participate will be refused for logistic reasons. • Some financial help is available for special circumstances. • Younger students, “freshman”, must be willing to adapt knowing they will have additional opportunities.
Estimated 2013 Costs • Airfare - $350.00 • Rooms - $110.00 • Magic Music - $135.00 • Transportation – $90.00 • Stipends - $60.00 $745.00

Could it cost more than $745.00? • Possible! • Estimates are based on current airfare rates and comparing our 2011 actual costs. • Most often we estimate high. Often we have been able to “surprise” students in California with a refund in either cash or Disney Dollars.
What are the Variables? • Number of Students Participating Number of Buses Number of Chaperones Possible group rates etc.

Accounting • Each student will have his/her individual account. Money is held in the Lynden Music Boosters Account. • Payment schedules will be set up as needed to make deposits and other travel arrangements. (Sept. 28 is the first Deposit) • Deposits are non-refundable after being paid to appropriate vendors.
Scholarships • A process has been available in the past to offer financial assistance (scholarships) to those students unable to raise trip fees. • Lynden Music Boosters is the governing agency and has parameters for making awards based on available funds, individual needs, and student demeanor.
