Stimulus Any internal or external changes that brings about a response. Outside the body: noise light temperature Inside the body: hormones
Homeostasis The regulation of steady, life-maintaining conditions inside of an organism. Examples: heart beat digestion
Impulse Message carried by neurons.
Neurons Nerve cells Parts: 1. Cell body 2. Dendrites receives impulses from the neurons and sends them to the cell body. 3. Axon carries impulses away from the cell body.
Types of Nerve Cells • Sensory Neurons receives information and sends impulses to the brain and spinal cord. Message is then sent to the motor neurons.
Types of Nerve Cells • Motor Neurons Impulses from the brain or spinal cord to muscles or glands. • Interneurons Relays messages to motor neurons from the sensory neurons.

Peripheral Nervous System • 12 pairs of nerves from brain—cranial nerves • 31 pairs of nerves from your spinal cord—spinal nerves. Bundle of sensory and motor neurons bound together by connective tissue.
