  1. 1860: NC secedes Recapping the Civil War 1861: Lincoln swears to uphold Union TIME FOR DIRTY NOTES!!! Seceded states = Confederacy & appoint Jefferson Davis as president South demands North removes all forces from South ( Union refuses) April 1861: Union attempts to restock supplies at Ft. Sumter & gets attacked Civil War begins – Confederacy population: 9 million Union population: 22 million Lincoln calls for volunteer army to fight South & puts naval blockades on Southern ports July 1861: Battle of Bull Run – Union expects triumph but Confederacy wins 1864: After many victories, Ulysses S. Grant is declared commander of all US forces April 9 1865: Lee surrenders to the Union & the Civil War is over April 15 1865: John Wilkes Booth assassinates Lincoln
