Why Would Bones Not Fuse Right Away? • We are still growing!! • Allows for your organs, muscles, nerves, arteries and veins to have room to migrate to their final destinations
Bones that take a while to fuse/ossify: • When do all 28(ish) bones of the skull fuse together? • Between ages 13-18! • What about the sacrum? • Between ages 25-30! • The humerus? • Around age 20! • Don’t tell me the pelvis, too!? • As late as age 25 Google Images

Hmmm... In what circumstance can you not tell the difference between Male and Female Pelvic bones? • When the bones belong to a young person! • Females end bone development around 18 years old • Males end bone development around 21 years old
Why so serious? What is the functional reason for the difference in pelvic bones between males and female?
Childbirth!!! Baby’s head needs to exit through the pelvis!
