- The reality of it is young girls are showed fake, unrealistic, and unattainable images that they are supposed to believe that they NEED to have. • - The media is the highest and the most concrete reason for why people (mainly women) get so self-conscious.
Today’s young women have higher rates of: • 1. Eating disorders, • 2. Depression, and • 3. Self-destructive behavior than in any other moment in history.
Quick Fact: • - An average woman spends enough money on beauty products; $7,000 by the time a girl is almost twenty, which is equal to paying for five years at a community college.
Advertisements: • -Advertisements have women selling everything from food to cars. • -We continue to see that women are the main focus of most advertisements and the biggest selling point for the product being sold. • -Almost every third advertisement broadcasted has some identification of female stereotypes.
Advertisements usually show woman in three ways: • Highly sexual • Doing house work • Shown being overpowered by men
