  2. Facts • A mummy is a body that has been saved after life. • The ancient Egyptians believed in the after life. That’s why they made mummies. • Making mummies is called mummification. • The earliest ancient Egyptians buried their dead in small pits in the desert. • The god of mummification is Anubis. • Protective spells were written on coffins.

More Facts • After wrapping, a mask was put over the head and shoulders. • The mummification process took around 70 days. • There were 11 steps in the mummification process. • Egyptians believed when a person died, they made a journey into the next life. • Researchers have a good idea of what the ancient Egyptians looked like in life 3,000 years ago.
