ROTTING OF OIL PALM FRUITS BEFORE RIPENING PREESNTED BY: GROUP 4A
OIL PALM FRUITS • Oil palm (Elaeisguineensis)
CULTIVATED AREAS IN WEST AFRICA • CAMEROON • LIBERIA • GHANA • NIGERIA
CAUSES OF ROTTING OF PALM FRUITS BEFORE RIPPING Rotting of PALM FRUITS occurs as a result of FUNGAL INFECTION mostly predominate in the rainy season. The rainfall coupled with the humid environment hastens the spread of the fungal spore and subsequent infection.
CAUSES • EXCESS BRANCHES(FRONDS) • TOO MUCH FERNS ON THE PALM TREE • EXCESSIVE SHADE ON MATURED BUNCH • IMPROPER FARM HYGIENE
CULTURAL CONTROL • REMOVAL OF FERNS
CHEMICAL CONTROL APPLICATION OF COPPER BASE FUNGICIDES SUCH AS: • MANCOZEB • THIRAM • METHIRAM ARE USED AS THE LAST RESORT
SOME CHEMICALS MANCOZEB COPPER BASE FUNGICIDE
